The print order has been delivered, the schedule of meetings is filling up, and we're getting more and more excited to see customers, contributors, and friends. For the third year in a row, we'll be publishing the FreePint SLA Special Report, featuring commentary from delegates. Take a minute now to register your interest. If you'll be attending, we'll remind you to contribute to the report. And if you can't make it this year, you can still tap the energy through our unique, on-the-ground coverage. Register (free) now » We've also been providing SLA exhibitors with webinar previews of the data collected through the most recent FreePint Research: Buying Patterns. The webinar format for these briefings has enabled us to share actionable, research-based information with global teams and help them better understand what content buyers are looking for, as well as the challenges they face when they make the case for any given purchase. For example: - Budgets seem to be stabilising compared, but we're not seeing a bounce-back to pre-2009 levels
- The ability of a purchase to make a measurable impact on an organisation is the toughest challenge content purchasers face internally
- Unique content is the most important factor in selecting pay-per-use or free resources
If you provide products or services for the information industry and would like to learn more about a customised briefing on this research, please complete the request form. The full report on this research will be available later this month, so request your free copy.
More information on preliminary findings can be found in the FreePint Bar.
If you think you've been reading more about FreePint Research projects, you're not imagining things. Over the past 12 months, we've completed and published research on outsourcing, economic impact, news needs and preferences, copyright policies and practices, and compliance products. Register your interest in participating in FreePint Research now. Research participants always receive a free copy of the resulting report to thank you for your time.

People power - BiomedExperts and three major social sites reviewed in May's VIP Don't be put off by the name when exploring the free-to-use BiomedExperts, warns Joanna Ptolomey; it's all about people and the return on connections that that can bring - a niche product with mass appeal. Its value and richness is appropriate to many stakeholders, including the business sector - aiding workflow processes, promoting business and economic growth and revealing inward investment possibilities. In an almost clean bill of health, it was only the shortcomings in help and support that let this impressive resource down.
And in what has to be one of the most thorough and comprehensive assessments of social networking sites for business undertaken to date, Penny Crossland pitches LinkedIn, Jigsaw and ZoomInfo against one another. LinkedIn is so robust and sophisticated that it's easy to forget that the data is subjective, based on user-generated input, she concludes; Jigsaw is worth subscribing to for the contact details it provides of directors of hard-to-find small and medium sized companies; and ZoomInfo offers information professionals a useful one-stop search tool for both companies and individuals. But they all have drawbacks too: LinkedIn's filters need to become smarter if search results are to be meaningful, Jigsaw's European coverage is poor, and ZoomInfo's data by its nature can't be accurate enough for business researchers and needs to be used with 'certain provisos'.
